I've always loved the song Harvest Moon by Neil Young. I find its warm melancholy (if that makes sense) always relaxes me. Sort of like when the first cool snap electrifies something inside you. It flips some switch that triggers a sadness for the loss of Summer, but that also excites you and makes you begin to prepare for the coming winter. And the smells of Fall are like no other. I feel like I always smell deeper and if I see clearer. Perhaps that is why my favorite poem (which I posted earlier) is called Autumn Day.
Another reason I love Autumn so much is because it is the Harvest of the year. We gather those things that we have nurtured and enjoy them. I'm aware that for some, the Harvest will not come this year. My heart breaks for them.
Jimmy was due on a Full Moon (Aug. 9th 2006). He died three days later (Aug. 12th) and was delivered the next day. He was my Harvest. And in so many ways I appreciate him. He made me a mother and I'll always have him in my heart.
This Sept. 26th is the Harvest Moon. Read about it here. Maybe I'll get my harvest on the Harvest Moon. Maybe not. But if there is some sort of justice, some cosmic scorekeeper, if the being that weaves time and events has a poet's soul, I will.
Monica and Critter (now in the single digit countdown)
PS, sorry I haven't been around to comment lately. I've been a bad blogger. Now that I've taken off of work, I'll show my face again at your blogs.
Single digits! I'm so excited for you Monica!

Slouching mom,
I don't know if I trust DH not to read my blog if I gave him the instructions for how to post. Hmm... I'll have to think about that one.

Oh wow, single digits!
We are in the midst of this move (it feels like we have been forever) and it has been so difficult to keep up with blogs. However, every time I get the chance to use the computer I check in on you:)
Sending lots of love to you and Critter.
